A brief intro

This most probably should have happened first but here is a little back ground as to how I got to where I am.

On leaving school in 2002 I did not want to see another text book for a very long time. I was one of those who found school deathly boring and thought everything else was far more important. So with my passion for food and clothing at the front of my mind I decided to pursue the food option. Jamie Oliver had just appeared on our TV screens and it all looked very glamorous. Why could I not be the next big TV celebrity chef? So off to Cape Town I went to start my 3 years at Silwood Kitchen. Loved all the learning and food discover but oh my, no one told you about the hell the awaits you as a training chef in a big kitchen. I was horrified! Firstly the atrocious outfits, then the 16 hour shifts and on top of that you go home smelling like a deep fat fryer! It was no place for a lady and definitely not one who dreamed of Manolo Blaniks and a glamorous life. However I did conquor my 3 years and graduated with a distinction and a grande diploma in cordon bleu cooking.

I attempted the first year of a degree in business management, but was completely hopeless at accounting, had no self discipline when it came to studying (this was being done through correspondence) and I was sick and tired of living on a student budget. So I decided to throw myself head first into my second passion. FASHION! (again an industry that just exudes glamour)

After four grueling interviews and plenty of nail biting moments I was accepted onto the trainee buyer programme for a retail chain called Truworths. It felt like I was in heaven. The possibility of looking at fabulous clothes all day, flying all over the world to document the hottest trends and revolutionising the way South Africans dress was right up my ally! I was what they had been waiting for (or so I thought). I put my life into this training and pushed myself harder than ever before. I am the type of person who just loves a challenge and if there is something above me that I need to achieve, I will make darn sure I get there. It took about 18 months and I had survived. I was now a proper clothing buyer with my own small department and feeling on top of the world. And here it is, the big BUT, I had worked so hard to get to this point and now that I was there, what now? So 18 months later I was so bored and miserable I new it was time to jump ship.

I took December 2009 as a much needed recoup holiday. I exercised every morning, had lunch with the girls, watch afternoon TV, shopped and shopped some more. A fabulous holiday to Australia, to meet my gorgeous boyfriends family filled up the last 2 weeks of December and the 1st week of Jan. On returning to Cape Town, it was all big ideas about opening cafes and being a successful entrepreneur. So I started my own baguette delivery business just to keep me going until the cafe opened.

Still no cafe but a steady lunch delivery business and a creative dilemma is what I have.

Peanut chicken satay with a hint of chilli and fresh coriander? Any Takers :)
